How to Choose a Sustainability Field Learning Partner in Phuket
A short checklist for heads of school, CAS coordinators and procurement officers assessing sustainability programme providers.
Start with learning, not activities
A good partner asks about your students, curriculum and reflection goals before showing you their site menu. If the first thing you receive is a list of activities and prices, that's a red flag.
Ask about local involvement
Who leads the on-site sessions? Are community knowledge holders paid, and how? Do communities decide what is shared publicly? A serious partner can answer these clearly.
Ask about safety and safeguarding
Ask for a summary of the risk assessment process, facilitator conduct expectations, emergency planning and licensing of transport and water activities. Be wary of anyone who claims certifications they can't evidence.
Ask about evidence and reflection
What will your students take home — beyond photos? A programme brief, reflection prompts, portfolio artefacts and a short summary report are reasonable to expect.
Look for humility
Be cautious of anyone promising 'guaranteed impact', 'leading' status or perfect fit to every curriculum. A grounded partner is honest about scope, limitations and what remains the school's responsibility.
